Teacher Help:

1. The intended audience for this activity is middle school students.
2. Students will learn the causes, risk factors, treatments and prevention of obesity. They will also learn healthy diet and exercise tips to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.
3. Students need to be able to follow hyperlinks and click on the correct article. They need a basic knowledge of healthy living and meal planning.
4. Students will need about 45 minutes to 1 hour of computer time to complete this web quest.
5. When grading, look for understanding of the cause of obesity and how to prevent it. Look for understanding of how to eat healthy and exercise properly. Students must show 30 minutes of exercise everyday, as well as a well balanced diet. The report should highlight the main causes, risk factors, treatments and preventions for childhood obesity. Their plans should be feasible and they should relate the concept to their own lifestyle.

The Project


Quest #3: The Project!
For the next few weeks you will be developing a project on healthy living. This project will be composed of two components:


Component #1: Write a 2-3 page report on obesity.
You will further research obesity and write a report explaining the causes, risk factors, treatment options and prevention strategies. At the end examine your own lifestyle and explain what you could do personally to make your lifestyle more healthy. Your report should be written with correct spelling, grammar and include a bibliography.


Component #2: Design a 7 day menu and exercise plan.
Plan out all your meals, beverages and snacks for 7 days. Then design an exercise plan to carry out for 7 days. Be sure your plans are feasible choices that you could do/make in your own life.

The project is due December 12th, bring it to class to share with your classmates!
